Well everyone... I went and got myself engaged to the most beautiful girl in the world! I wanted to share some of the photos with you as well as a little video. Katie is the most amazing person I have ever met. I can't imagine anyone better to spend the rest of my life with. She is a gift from God and one that I will cherish forever.
I'll do my best to explain the story with the pictures, and pictures, and pictures.... and even some more pictures.
So here is the story...
I proposed to Katie on Wednesday, December 08, 2010. I was a wreck the entire day. We weren't together very much, which was good for me because I'm sure I wouldn't have been able to act normal. That night we had our annual YouthQuest Christmas party. This was another good thing because I was able to preoccupy myself with other people, therefore avoiding acting weird around Katie. While we were gone at the Christmas Party, Katie's brother Kyle, her cousin Leigh Anna, her best friend Sam, along with plenty of other people, completely flipped her apartment. I had asked them to do this ahead of time and had been planning with Kyle for weeks. They moved everything out of her living room save a couch, some lamps, a few side tables and a stereo. They also tacked hundreds of photos of Katie and I to the ceiling, scattered them on the ground, and put them in picture frames. About 100 candles were placed around the room as well.
Back at the Christmas party, I was FREAKING OUT as the party went 10 minutes over... 20 minutes over... 30 minutes over... ONE HOUR LONGER THAN EXPECTED! And there was nothing I could do about it. I just had to sit there and act like nothing was going on. I was in constant contact with Kyle, Leigh Anna and Sam throughout the night. Going to the bathroom every 5 or 10 minutes to check my phone and make sure all was going as planned. Eventually the party ended and I told Katie to call me when she got back to her apartment. I quickly found my way to the door and bounced! My roommate and great friend, Zack, had asked Katie to ride back with him because there was some stuff he needed some girl advice about. Little did Katie know that this was only a diversion to give me time to get back to her house, light all the candles, set up the video cameras, and prepare myself for what was about to happen.
I get to Katie's apartment and could not believe what I saw. It was absolutely perfect. Everything was how I imagined it would be. The pictures, the candles, the memories, EVERYTHING. I set up the video cameras, lit all the candles, and waited for the text from Zack saying they were close. I got the text and waited to hear the sound of Katie's keys in the door. MY HEART WAS POUNDING OUT OF MY CHEST! She opened the door and simply states, "Oh... my... gosh..." She was in shock. "What the heck!?," she screamed. I pull her to the center of the room after she takes off her scarf and coat. We hug, kiss, hug, kiss. I can't seem to get my head on straight. Eventually I pull myself together, and begin. I tell her that I love her. That she is the perfect example of Christ's love in my life. I tell her that I can't imagine anything better than spending the rest of my life with her, among other things. (I can tell she is FREAKING OUT!!!)
She covers her face with her hands as I get down on my knee. I reach over, grab the ring, open the box and I ask, "Will you marry me?" "Yes... yes...," she says." I put the ring on her finger, she stares at it for a second and exclaims, "NO WAY!!! We're engaged!!!" I show her around the room and show her all of the details. All of the photos, all of the little trinkets I've kept from our relationship (Red Bull bottles, notes, name tags, paintings, etc.). She is awestruck. I ask her to dance and I put on our song (Until You by Dave Barnes). We dance, hug, kiss. We are engaged.
Here is the video....
Now here are the pictures...
Here we are after the engagement amidst the over 500 pictures of us.
Sam and Leigh Anna set up these Scrabble pieces for us. A version of Scrabble called Take 2, is one of our favorite games to play. This couldn't have been more perfect.
After Kyle, Leigh Anna, Sam, Zack, Dan and some other friends come over, Katie and I got a few moments alone. Just enough time to take this shot.
The next day, I had an entire Engagement Day planned for Katie and I. Starting out with a manicure with Sam and Leigh Anna, I surprised her with a bouquet of roses. Later that day I took her to All Fired Up, a pottery painting place here in Lynchburg. This is one of our favorite places to go on a date. I wanted to make something that represented the day we got engaged so we painted an Engagement Vase.
Here is a photo of the ring. Can't ask for a closer shot of this baby. Isn't it gorgeous? It was her grandmothers ring. We are so thankful that we were given such an amazing gift. We will surely cherish it.
Thank you so much to our parents, family, friends, and everyone who was involved in making this perfect! We are more than grateful for each and every one of you.
