So you may or not remember a little storm called Hurricane Joaquin back in October 2015... Well, that little storm caused Jesse & Drea to postpone all of their planned wedding festivities to June 2016. They still got married back in October in a small ceremony with their closest friends and family which thankfully we were able to attend and capture. After things calmed down, they were able to secure a date that worked for all of their original vendors and the festivities were back on! After shooting this wedding... we kind of don't hate the idea of people getting married in a small ceremony and then having a traditional wedding day months later. Jesse & Drea were so relaxed and comfortable and confident and it made the day SOOOOO simple and easy.
They got married in Toms River, New Jersey which is where spent much of her childhood at her grandparents home. Her parents now live in that home which is where everyone got ready for the wedding!
What were some of your favorite memories from your wedding day?
Drea: Getting ready with my bridesmaids, our first look, exchanging our vows, our first dance, and seeing all of our loved ones in one spot-so cool!
Jesse: Our first look, when Drea and I exchanged our vows, and seeing my friends, family, and loved ones all in the same place.
What were some of the sweetest memories from your wedding day?
Drea: Definitely seeing my grandma and her sisters reunite with each other. I loved watching them sing, dance, and laugh with each other-so sweet.
Jesse: Watching Drea dance with her dad.
What were some of the funniest memories from your wedding day?
Drea: We had a wedding crasher! I thought it was hilarious. I saw the woman and assumed she worked at the club but apparently she didn't. Whoops!
Jesse: Finding out that most of our relatives were freaking out while we were taking pictures close to the water. Apparently they thought Dre would fall in... we were fine.
What is something that happened on your wedding day that you didn't expect?
Drea: I definitely did not expect to cry so much when we exchanged our personal vows.
Jesse: I did not expect to have a wedding crasher!
Is there anything you wish you knew?
Drea: Jesse and I have a unique wedding story, so since we were all ready married we were both able to relax and enjoy the day! I wish I knew how to relax in October when we got married.
Jesse: How to print my vows... thank goodness for smart phones!
Advice for future brides:
Enjoy your day, try not to stress about the little details, everything will come together, eat, dance, and laugh with your family and friends!
Advice for future grooms:
Have two weddings, it takes away a lot of the stress.
All the Details
Wedding Date: 6/11/2016
Theme/Colors/Inspiration: Theme: classic/nautical/feminine
Colors: navy blue, blush pink and champagne gold
Inspiration: A nautical take on Lauren Conrad's wedding haha
The Bride. My dress was originally a mermaid style dress! I fell in love with it because I loved the lace/beaded details, especially the scalloped lace at the hem. My mom is a miracle worker and turned it into the a-line gown that I have always dreamt of wearing. My shoes were my something blue, I could not pass them up! They were scalloped flats, that matched the hem of my dress.
The Groom. I'm a pretty casual person, I didn't want to wear anything to stuffy or untrue to me. I also wanted a simple outfit that my groomsmen had in their closet or could buy and re-wear.
The Bridesmaids. I love my girls, they are the best and I'm so blessed to call them my friends! I didn't want them to spend a ton of money on their dresses and I wanted them to like them. I had them pick out their own dresses and I think they all looked beautiful! I gave them monogrammed mens shirts as their presents, I wanted to do something a little different!
The Groomsmen. My groomsmen were my closest friends and family so choosing them was easy. I gave them their bow ties and suspenders as their gift to help ease the cost of their outfit, I know how expensive that can get.
The Music. We chose "The Girl" by City and Colour for the ceremony because it is a meaningful song that we both love. It was also fitting for Josh's voice (musician) and we really wanted him to sing at our wedding.
The Ceremony. We wrote our own vows and briefly talked about what we were going to say so it was cool that we both ended them in the same way even though we wrote them separately.
The Reception. It was pretty traditional, which we both loved! Drea especially loved the line dances and Jesse enjoyed having the option of going outside to take a break from the dancing.
Who made this day happen?
Venue: Toms River Yacht Club, http://www.tryc.com/index.html
Why did you choose this venue?
Drea: I have always wanted to get married on the water but not necessarily on the beach so this location was perfect! I also grew up visiting my family in the area so it's very sentimental to me.
Jesse: I love being on the water, it has always been a big part of my life. The yacht club just made sense to us!
