We're so excited to share Chris & Shannon's wedding day! Shannon was a bridesmaid in Brent & Alexis' wedding back in 2014. It is always so much fun when we get to reconnect with past wedding parties.
This day was full of many sweet moments shared between Chris & Shannon and their awesome families. As you scroll, be sure to read Chris & Shannon's favorite memories from the day. They've got some great advice for future couples too!
The morning of their wedding, Chris & Shannon went for a walk together. They found a quiet spot on St. Pete Beach (which is definitely hard to come by on a Saturday morning) and shared their personal vows with each other. We loved this idea and think it is a great alternative to the traditional first look.
What were some of the sweetest memories from your wedding day?
One of the sweetest moments was when my dad came to see me - he brought me a tiny little bunch of wildflowers he had picked near the beach that morning. Right after that, I gave him his boutonniere. I was so bad at pinning it on, so my step-dad came over and pinned it for him. That moment really made me realize how extraordinary my family is, and how God has blessed me with not 2, but 3 amazing parents. - Shannon
My parents have this photo at our house of my dad and grandfather posing on the day of my dad's wedding (my grandfather passed away when I was a kid, so I really didn't get to know him). My dad and I tried to imitate that same pose. Additionally, my dad brought pins with a picture of my grandfather at my dad's wedding for everyone on wear. I am not great at describing things, but the memory itself will be cherished. - Chris
Advice for future grooms:
Bring plenty of tissues. Don't get worried/anxious/nervous...everyone is there to celebrate you and your bride-to-be's wedding, not to critique everything.
"I chose the VERSA dresses in mint from David's Bridal for my bridesmaids. I loved that they all wore the same dress, but they chose which neckline they liked best." - Shannon
Advice for future brides:
1. Try and see your ceremony and reception sites all decorated before the wedding. If I hadn't snuck down that morning for a sneak peak, I would have no memory of what it all looked like. It is really hard to take in the details once all the craziness begins!
2. Don't get stressed out by the group photos right after the ceremony. I was overwhelmed with trying to coral my family members that I made myself more stressed than necessary and had a little bridezilla moment. If I could do it again, I would close my mouth, enjoy standing next to my HUSBAND, and let Jake and Katie do the work.
3. Bring a tissue for your groom ;)
We've got to give a shout out to Alexis and the 2Birds team. They did an awesome job with Chris & Shannon's "coastal" theme. Shannon said "Our wedding was at the beach, but I didn't really want a "beachy" theme. Instead, we decided on "coastal." Alexis and her team pulled it of beautifully with lanterns, driftwood, succulents, and lots of candles."
What were some of your favorite memories from your wedding day?
My favorite memory is 100% walking down the aisle. I didn't see any of the people, hear the music, or notice the decor. All I saw was Chris - it was so surreal and I will never forget that feeling. - Shannon
My favorite memory was when Shannon walked out of the door leading to the aisle. Everything seemed to be in slow motion. -Chris
What is something that happened on your wedding day that you didn't expect?
I didn't expect to cry more than Shannon at the ceremony. - Chris
Chris & Shannon chase "Then" by Brad Paisley as the song for their first dance. Shannon told us that Chris' cousin is a dancer and told them that they wouldn't be "swaying" on their wedding day. They surprised their guests with a choreographed dance and they did an awesome job. It was beautiful!
What were some of the funniest memories from your wedding day?
We had wedding crashers!!!! They were taking selfies on the dance floor, so Chris and I went over and got in their selfie! We introduced ourselves and told them we were glad they could stop by; Then we had them kicked out ;)
Chris & Shannon perfectly explained their reception with these two words: CONFETTI CANNONS.
Venue: TradeWinds Island Grand Resort, https://www.tradewindsresort.com/index
Why did you choose this venue? I went to the Tradewinds every Spring Break as a kid, so it holds a lot of memories for me. I also liked the fact that it would be more of a "destination" location for our out of state guests. Another bonus is that they use an in-house caterer and have a wedding planner that they contract with, so those were 2 less vendors that I had to find.
Planner: Chloe Smith with Exquisit Events
Make Up Artist's: Jessica Thomas, https://www.facebook.com/jessicathomasmakeup/?fref=ts
Bridal Salon: CC's Bridal Boutique - St. Pete
Florist's: Alexis Metcalf with 2Birds, http://www.2birdsevents.com/index.html
Why did you choose this florist?I love Alexis' style, and I knew she could make my vision a reality. With 2Birds, you have the option of renting "hard goods" along with the flowers. This meant that Alexis and her team could design and provide all of the decor for the ceremony and reception, set it up the day of, AND come back that evening to take it all down. We didn't have to do a thing.
Bakery's: A Special Touch - Cakes by Carolyn
Why did you choose this bakery? My mom and step-dad got their wedding cake there 20 years ago, and still get a small cake from her every year on their anniversary. She is one of The Knot's top bakeries in the area, and it was special to have the same cake that my parents did.

Thanks goes out to...
Our amazing families who gave us the wedding of our dreams. We are eternally grateful for all of their continuous love and support. We also want to thank our family and friends, some who traveled across the country to celebrate with us. Each and every one of them are so special to us and the day wouldn't have been the same without any of them. A HUGE thank you to the Tradewinds and all of our vendors. They ALL went above and beyond to make our day special.
