Pete & Emily | Wedding

We first met Pete & Emily at Josiah & Rebecca's wedding in 2013. Pete is from England and Emily is from Pennsylvania, but they met in Ghana, Africa! We were incredibly honored when Pete contacted us and asked if we would be their wedding photographers. Their wedding day was filled with so many special moments, and some really insane weather! See for yourself... The day started out bright, sunny and beautiful.

We rarely ever post family portraits, but how could we resist? This one is so great!

As you'll see in the next few portraits, the blue skies have gone away. We were rushing to use up this amazing light before the clouds rolled in and it started to rain.

As you can see in the photo above, it had begun to rain... just in time for the reception!

Meanwhile, outside...

After Pete & Emily had finished with dinner, we were able to sneak them out for a few more portraits. After all, the storm had passed and had given us one of the most amazing skies we'd ever seen. Now, you may think these are fake, they look a bit like paintings, but we assure you, they are very real.

We turned them around to capture this... ARE YOU KIDDING?!

.................................

From the bride & groom...

Best moments of the day:

Emily: Walking down the aisle and seeing my future husband for the first time. I hadn’t seen him all day so I was very excited to finally see his face!

Pete: My favorite moment is seeing my wife walk down the aisle. Absence makes the heart grow fonder.

Sweetest memory of the day...

Emily: I loved being able to pray with Pete before the wedding. I was so anxious and it was so good to be able to calm my nerves by praying and spending a few moments focusing my mind and heart.

Pete: I loved having my family share the day with us. My family flew from a long way. Also the maid of honor, the sister of the bride, her speech was very moving.

Funniest memory of the day...

Emily: The funniest memory of the day was probably when the huge thunderstorm rolled through. Unlike most storms, this storm managed to knock out partial power of the barn where the reception took place. Funnily enough, this happens in Ghana ALL THE TIME. The last thing I expected to happen on my wedding day in the USA was to lose power. But hey, all I could do was laugh and take some more pictures!

Pete: As we entered the barn we had to go through a very tight space and I was caught up trying not to step on the train of my bride. I was wearing glasses, they fell off, I tried picking up her train and see her face as she saw me almost on my knees picking up her train in front of all our guests.

Advice for future brides...

Emily: Don’t stress out about planning your wedding! We pulled this beautiful wedding off in only 85 days and it was everything we could’ve wanted. Too often I was close to letting the stress and nerves ruin my time with family and friends before the wedding, but I tried to stay focused and remember that there were lots of people there to help out and that everything would work out!

Pete: You have done all you can up to the moment when you walk down the aisle. Now take in it, enjoy it, and make it the best day.

Advice for future grooms...

Emily: Take care of your future wife in the week or so before the wedding! Guaranteed she will be very stressed and needs time alone with her future huband to de-stress and unwind from all the preparations.

Pete: Whatever she needs, get it to her. She WILL get stressed, she WILL panic and she WILL need you to look after her. A good groom sees to his wife to make sure she is relaxed and enjoys the day. It’s ok for you to enjoy it too. Pick your battles, put your foot down for things that you don’t want to compromise on because that may make the wedding yours too.

Thanks goes out to...

Emily: My mom, Kathy Good! We literally could not have done this entire day without her. Since we were planning from overseas, we really couldn’t do much! She did everything from scoping out possible venues, looking at the china & cutlery, and helping to organize all the vendors.

Pete: My wife who did SOOOO much! And for the friends and family who helped, supported and made this an enjoyable day. Special thanks to Kathy Good who after working very hard at her day job sorting out everything we needed and wanted. Wedding planning could be a career change ;)

Extra comments…

Pete & Emily: Special thanks to Jake and Katie who flew the whole way in from Florida for the wedding. You guys did an incredible job and we had so much fun shooting with you!
