Spencer & Helena found us on Instagram and after FaceTiming with them, we knew we were going to love them. They live in NYC and we were so excited when they wanted to do their session in Central Park. We loved them on FaceTime and we loved them even more in person. We probably spent more time laughing than we did shooting which lead to some awesome images. It was so much fun to explore the city with them and we were even more excited when the sun finally decided to show up at the end of their session. Enjoy!
When and how did you meet?
Helena and I met on August 24, 2009 on the first day of school at Wiregrass Ranch High School. I had a penchant for talking to everyone around me, so the first day of school I was talking to everyone in class but missed talking to Helena. She was sitting behind me and didn't like that I wasn't talking to her, and thought that the best way to get to know me was a swift jab to the neck with her pencil. After a sharp pain, I reacted the same way most people would by yelling a profanity just as the teacher walked in, which led to us both getting punished and having our first conversion with our noses pressed against a cold white board.
When and how did you get engaged?
Spencer proposed to me on April 13, 2015 while giving his final speech in his senior speech class at FSU. He told me the speech would be about persuading students to cook at home more, and asked that I come to his class to help pass out food. But when I walked into the classroom, he began his speech by saying, "Everyone, this is my lovely girlfriend of five years, Helena." I was immediately thrown off since there was no food in sight. He brought me to the front of the room next to a huge picture of Spencer and me projected onto the big screen. He continued his speech by saying all of reasons that we shouldn't be in love: we had completely different personalities, we were going to be in debt from student loans, we were going to be 2,000 miles apart for the summer, we had completely different career paths. Throughout his whole speech, he kept smiling at me. I've never been so embarrassed, shocked, and ecstatic at the same time. I kept putting my hands on my face in embarrassment, but then peeking through my fingers because I didn't want to look away from him. When I uncovered my face, I watched as he got down on one knee saying that despite all of these reasons, he never wanted to spend a single day without me for the rest of his life.
Helena as explained by Spencer.
Helena is my best friend. She makes me be a better person than I ever could be, while simultaneously keeping me down to earth. She teaches me everyday, and makes me laugh twice as much. She is the love of my life.
Spencer as explained by Helena.
Spence is the funniest, most confident, and inspiring man I know. We met when we were 16 and have changed and grown up together, and I love that about us. His charisma was one of the first things I noticed about him. He can strike up a conversation with anyone, and I absolutely love that about him. But what sets Spencer apart from most people is his wit; he makes me laugh constantly and I know we'll be laughing at the silliest things when we're 80. He makes life fun in the best way and I'm so excited to grow and experience new things with him as husband and wife.
When and where is your wedding?
We're getting married in September 2016 in sunny Tampa, Florida underneath a gazebo at the restaurant where we ate for senior prom: The Rusty Pelican!
