It was fun getting to know Matt & Abbie during their session, spending the afternoon wandering around Downtown Tampa chasing light. These two have known each other since the 6th grade, that's a long time!! Take some time to read more about Matt & Abbie as you scroll through their session. Enjoy!
When & how did you meet?
We met in the 6th grade because we went to the same middle school. We had classes together throughout middle school and high school, but we didn't become good friends until 11th grade.
When & how did you get engaged?
We got engaged on December 22, 2015. I would have normally worked on that day, but Matt secretly talked to my manager to get him to change my schedule (who proceeded to tell me that he "accidentally" scheduled someone else when I told him that I could work and didn't need off). During the day, we were doing some Christmas shopping and just hanging out. We had a great time talking, laughing, and being ourselves and everything felt normal. We had plans to go to dinner and Bern's dessert room (which the fact that we had plans was a surprise in itself!), so I went home to get ready. As I was driving home, I started getting really nervous/excited/anxious that he was going to propose that night. I called my friend (who knew he was proposing that night) to tell her I was freaking out that I thought he was going to propose. She told me to calm down and that she did not want me to get my hopes up in case he wasn't going to, but she did ask me what I was wearing and if I was getting all dressed up for Bern's. Finally, Matt comes to pick me up, wearing my favorite outfit of his that I picked out for him to wear of course, and we went to dinner at Texas Roadhouse. After we finished dinner, we drove to Bern's to have dessert. I had never been, but I always wanted to go because I heard their food was amazing! In the car and during dinner/dessert, I could tell something was a little off. Matt seemed SO nervous and would ramble on and on. I also seemed to notice that he was on his phone quite a lot, which he never does when we hang out or go on a date. When he is driving, he usually gives him is phone to be in charge of the GPS but he wouldn't let me even TOUCH his phone no matter how many times I offered. I was definitely suspicious at this point! After dessert, Matt mentioned that his friend told him there was beautiful Christmas lights all around downtown St. Pete and it is really pretty to walk around, which I was all about! We got down there, found a parking spot, and started walking around. We had not gone very far when I felt his hand start to tense up. We had just gotten to this big, beautifully lit Christmas tree that was in the middle of the park, when Matt muttered with a trembling voice, "hey, lets just stop here for a minute" and that is when I knew it was happening. He turned to me as he reached into his pocket and got down on one knee. After he gave a little speech and asked me if I would marry him (and I said yes!), I gave him the biggest hug in the world. It was the happiest moment of my life and I felt like I was in a dream.
Matt as explained by Abbie:
Matt is the sweetest guy I know and would do anything to make me happy. He is constantly making me laugh and he brings out the best in me. Matt is such a caring person and is always willing to make sacrifices to do things for others. Matt can be shy, but once you get to know him he can talk (or sing) your ear off. He can also be so awkward sometimes, it's cute and never fails to bring a good laugh to the table. I know that no matter what I go through in life, Matt will be by my side supporting and encouraging me the whole way.
Abbie as explained by Matt:
Abbie is my best friend. I love to do everything I can with her. She is such a compassionate woman and is always putting others before her. She truly wants to see her friends and loved ones succeed even if it means giving them a hard truth. We have been through a lot together and at the end of it all she has stuck by my side and helped me get through anything. When I was in college I started to panic about what my major should be and what career to pursue. I liked the idea of teaching but was always afraid that I would not make enough money or not succeed as a teacher. Abbie encouraged me and helped me get though my many moments of doubt. Today I am now a teacher and absolutely love it and could not have gotten to this point without Abbie always being there to helpme through my fears. I can’t imagine my life without her being my other half.I know it’s cliché but I can’t wait to start this new chapter in our lives together and see what the future holds for us.
